It’s Summertime at the Beach and We’re Dancing!

We want to thank our Facebook fan, Trista Davenport, for sharing this great picture! Thanks so much, Trista.

The “We’re Buying Dinner” Winners!

Last month we had a $50 gift certificate to The Fish House and a $50 gift certificate to Mango Marley’s (compliments of Southern Vacation Rentals) up for grabs. We received over 180 entries. Thank you all for reading and entering! And our winners are Leon and Evelyn Talada of Memphis, TN for the Mango Marley’s certificate and Barbara Chambers of Sanford, MI for the Fish House certificate.

Meet Mexico Beach

This month we have a special recognition. In July, there was a criminal who was sought by the police; he had eluded apprehension in a neighboring town. The suspect was driving through Mexico Beach when he was spotted by our local police who chased him and quickly apprehended him with assistance from the Bay County Sheriff’s office. We commend our law enforcement personnel for keeping Mexico Beach a safe and secure community.

Mexico Beach Fishing Report

August
August is when the bite, like the weather, heats up. Take some time to catch live bait with a sabiki rig along the buoy line into St. Joe Bay, and then put them right back out on light spinning gear with a wire leader and treble hooks and bump troll around the same buoys. Just go fast enough to keep the baits behind the boat and get ready for some fast action. Remember the 17th Annual MBARA Kingfish Tournament is August 24.

Mexico Beach offers some of the best sport fishing in the world. For a complete list of charter services, marina info, and reef coordinates visit mexicobeach.com.

Weddings on the Beach

Mexico Beach is the perfect place to say “I Do”! For more information on weddings or vow renewal ceremonies on the beach, visit mexicobeach.com.

Gena & Jeff
Gena and Jeff, from near Mobile, Alabama, were good friends in high school and got together later in life. They came to Mexico Beach for a romantic sunrise wedding on the beach. Congratulations, Gena and Jeff!

Mary & Christopher
We offer our congratulations to Mary and Christopher, who came from Moultrie, Georgia, for their wedding on the beach. It was a sunset ceremony and they added a personal touch with a dance during the ceremony—very creative and fun! Congratulations, Mary and Christopher!

Vow Renewal Weekend Giveaway

Last year we sponsored a free trip to the beach for a couple to come and reaffirm their wedding vows. We had a lot of interest and a lot of fun doing it, and we were able to give the prize to a lovely couple. So, we’ve decided to do it again. If you would like to enter, give us a brief story of your wedding day and how this renewal would be special. This offer is only valid for the month of September. The winner will receive two nights’ lodging, a restaurant gift certificate, pictures of the ceremony (max. 15), and an officiant to perform the ceremony. Send your name and contact information to [email protected] no later than August 20. Don’t forget to include your story!

Recipe of the Month

Scallops Vermouth
We thank the MBARA for sharing this delicious fish recipe from the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association cookbook.

INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 tbsp. minced onion
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained
1/4 cup dry vermouth
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 lb. bay scallops
1 bay leaf
2 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup light cream
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce (optional)

DIRECTIONS
Combine butter and onion in a two-quart microwave-proof casserole dish. Cook in microwave, uncovered, on maximum power for two minutes. Stir in flour and blend well. Add mushrooms, wine, salt, pepper, scallops, bay leaf, and lemon juice. Stir carefully. Cook, covered, on maximum power for six minutes, or until scallops are tender. Remove bay leaf. Beat cream with egg yolk. Add some of the hot liquid carefully to egg and blend well. Stir egg mixture carefully into hot casserole. Add pepper sauce and stir well. Cook, covered, on power level 6 (60%) [bake] for five minutes, stirring once during cooking. Sprinkle with parsley and serve. Makes four servings.

Thoughts for the Month

Yogi Berra is one of the most beloved and often-quoted figures in baseball. His skills were legendary, and so were his quotes. We thought you might enjoy a few of them.

“If you don’t know where you’re going, you might end up someplace else.”

On why he no longer went to a local restaurant, he said, “Nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded.”

“Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours.”

“Never answer anonymous letters.”

“Ninety percent of the game (baseball) is half mental.”

“It gets late early out there.”

“It ain’t over till it’s over.”
