It's Springtime!
The Fourth of July was a big celebration in Mexico Beach and we believe we had a record turnout. Our day started off bright and early with our annual Sandy Shoes 5K Fun-Run. We had 465 runners registered this year—a new record! The race was off to a running start and we hope everyone who participated enjoyed it. We would like to congratulate our winners:
MALE
Overall Male: Ethan Mines
12 & Under: Tyler Rock
13-19: Cade Swindle
20-39: Dane Talbert
40-59: Rodney Wellmann
60+: Nicholas Tredway
FEMALE
Overall Female: Kathy Wolski
12 & Under: Anna Martinez
13-19: Jayde Smelcer
20-39: Marla Flanigan
40-59: Leslie Charles
60+: Gretchen Manes
After the race, we normally have our kids’ fishing tournament, but this year we had to postpone it due to the canal improvements. The canal construction should be completed by the beginning of 2017, and we expect to have the fishing tournament again next year. Our night finished up with the giant fireworks display from the pier and it was spectacular! We would like to give a big thank-you to all the volunteers who very generously helped make our Best Blast on the Beach a success and a special thanks to all our guests for joining us. We hope you make plans to celebrate with us in 2017!
FISHING
REPORT
Just a reminder to all our friends that not all fishing is done from a boat in Mexico Beach. Some of our anglers fish off the shore and some off the city pier. We also have anglers who enjoy diving. Thanks to the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association, we have over 160 reefs below the surface that attract fish of all kinds. Avid divers can enjoy looking at the many beautiful species as well as catching some of them.

Pictured are Carol Cox and Brian Higdon with a nice Gulf flounder and red snapper from the Tower Site reef area.
AND THE
WINNER IS...
Last month, we were giving away the book Images of America—Mexico Beach autographed by the authors, Cathey Parker Hobbs and Al Cathey, and donated by Parker Realty. The winner was Terry Thornhill from Pascagoula, Mississippi. Happy reading, Terry!

This month, we have a gift certificate to The Grove up for grabs. The nautical curiosities, local art, home decor, accessories and more at The Grove entice all types of shoppers. If you would like to put your name in the hat, send an e-mail to Melissa at [email protected] and be sure to put your contact info in the e-mail.
The beach is an alluring and romantic place to get married. If you’re getting married and want to experience a truly unique place, we recommend the beach! For more information on weddings or vow renewal ceremonies on the beach, visit www.mexicobeach.com.
Jenny & Tyler
This month our first couple is Jenny and Tyler, who joined us from Tulsa, Oklahoma. They had a beautiful sunset ceremony on our beach. Congratulations, Jenny and Tyler!
Ryan & Cara
Our next couple is Ryan and Cara, who joined us from Strasburg, Virginia. They came to renew their vows and celebrate 15 years of marriage. Congratulations, Ryan and Cara!
