July is right around the corner and once again, Mexico Beach is pulling out all the stops for Independence Day with the annual Best Blast on the Beach celebration!

The Best Blast on the Beach festivities begin with the annual Sandy Shoes 5K Fun Run at Under the Palms Park on 7th Street, just a couple of blocks from Highway 98. Registration forms are available online at mexicobeach.com and at the Tourist Information Center on Canal Parkway. Race start time is 7:00 a.m CST. Be sure to preregister as space is limited to the first 325 runners and there will be no race day registration.

The $15 entry fee includes a T-shirt, and awards will be given in 4 categories: Boys (14 and under), Girls (14 and under), Women, and Men.

The second event is the kids’ fishing tournament on the jetty at Canal Park from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m CST. The fishing tournament is free; no preregistration is needed. Free hot dogs, snacks, and beverages will be served to participants and parents. Bring your own fishing poles. Trophies for the winners and ribbons for all anglers will be awarded. Enjoy a relaxing day in Mexico Beach and get ready for the fireworks show!

The spectacular fireworks show from the pier starts at 8:30 p.m. CST—a not-to-be-missed event for everyone.

“The Best Blast on the Beach is funded by two events: the Gumbo Cook-Off in February and the Art and Wine Festival in October.” said Kimberly Shoaf, president of the Mexico Beach Community Development Council. “We are very proud of our show. Independence Day is a great time to visit Mexico Beach. Come celebrate America’s birthday on America’s prettiest beaches!”
