Mexico Beach offers spring events for everyone
Mexico Beach, Florida (February 9, 2017) – From its annual Music in the Park concert series each fall to February’s deliciously fun gumbo cook-off and Mardi Gras festival, the coastal town of Mexico Beach has an events calendar bursting at the seams year-round. This spring, join the Unforgettable Coast in celebrating the beauty of the beach with events the whole family can enjoy.
It’s time to start planning spring break getaways, and for those who seek a quiet vacation away from crowds, noise, and traffic, Mexico Beach is waiting! Within walking and biking distance of its beautiful white-sand beaches are quaint motels and inns, beautifully appointed beach houses and condo rentals, and even rustic campgrounds. Locally owned shops and restaurants are the perfect low-key spots to spend a spring break browsing for gifts, art, and souvenirs and enjoying succulent Gulf seafood and refreshing drinks.
“In Mexico Beach, we’re especially proud of being able to offer something for everyone who visits,” said Kimberly Shoaf, president of the Mexico Beach Community Development Council. “Spring break is a great time for families to escape the crowds at other beaches and come here to relax, ride bikes, build sand castles, and just enjoy time together.”
They say April brings showers, but not in Mexico Beach; for the past two years, it has brought love instead. The third annual Mexico Beach Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony will take place on the beach at Sunset Park on Saturday, April 8, 2017, beginning at 4:00 p.m. All married couples are invited to register for this unforgettable vow renewal event. Last year, around 20 couples joined together on the beach for music, laughter, photos, and a heartfelt ceremony led by Mexico Beach’s own “Marryin’ Jack” Mullen.
“This provides a unique opportunity to tell that someone special that you still love them,” said Marryin’ Jack. Friends and family are invited to witness the ceremony and to join in afterward for a complimentary reception with refreshments and music. All couples who wish to participate in the free Vow Renewal Ceremony can RSVP through the online form at www.mexicobeach.com/weddings/wedding-vow-renewal-2017.
Closing out Mexico Beach’s spring calendar of events is a favorite among the art community, the Forgotten Coast en Plein Air – America’s Great Paint-Out. Now in its twelfth year, the event invites nationally acclaimed artists to the coast from May 4 through 15 to document the landscapes and culture of “Old Florida.” In conjunction with the Plein Air artists, the event also hosts outdoor painting sessions, workshops, luncheons, forums, and the annual Collector’s Gala. Artists can be seen capturing the great outdoors all along the coast in Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe, Apalachicola, and beyond during this distinctive annual event.
“The Forgotten Coast en Plein Air continues to grow and capture our communities and their culture in the arts. By this, we are able to continue our mission for promoting arts, education, and culture along Florida,” said Joe Taylor, event chair and vice president of the Forgotten Coast Cultural Coalition. More information and registration for public workshops and other activities will be available at www.pleinairfl.com.
