Golly … What a Tournament!

Mexico Beach GollyWhopper Classic was delighted to host their eighth annual fishing tournament this year—and what a great time! Awards were presented in the categories of King Mackerel, Red Snapper, and Grouper. This year’s tournament did not have any cash prizes; instead, the proceeds were earmarked for the City of Mexico Beach. There were 73 boat entries and 23 youngsters in the tournament: the largest participation in the eight years that the tournament has been in Mexico Beach. The spirit of volunteerism is very much alive and the commitment to rebuild Mexico Beach is strong. We offer a big “Thank You” to the tournament directors, who donated $12,500 to the City of Mexico Beach’s canal and fish-cleaning station projects.

Golf Quotes … Fooorrreee!

It’s summertime and the height of golf season. We have collected a few sayings and quotes about the game that we believe you’ll enjoy.

Golf has produced a lot of millionaires—most of them are former billionaires.

A good golf partner is one who’s always slightly worse than you. That’s why so many golfers are invited to play.

Have you ever noticed what “golf” spelled backwards is?

It took me seventeen years to get three thousand hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course.
—Hank Aaron

If I had cleared the trees and drove the green, it would’ve been a great shot.
—Sam Snead

Golf is a game in which you yell “fore,” shoot six, and write down five.
—Paul Harvey

I know I’m getting better at golf because I’m hitting fewer spectators.
—President Gerald Ford

Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.
—Winston Churchill

The reason the pro tells you to keep your head down is so you can’t see him laughing.
—Phyllis Diller

Golf combines two favorite American pastimes: taking long walks and hitting things with a stick.
—P. J. O’Rourke
