The Mexico Beach “Wing Code”
So You Wanna Come to the Beach? Read This First.
Hi, there! I am April Head of Wing Code Enforcement, and I am here to help you with understanding these unwritten rules.
Every year, like clockwork, y’all show up with your coolers, your chairs, your little Bluetooth speakers… and absolutely no idea how to act at the beach.
And I get it. You’re excited. You’re on vacation. The sun’s out, the water’s pretty, and your biggest responsibility is making sure you relax.
Must be nice. But while you’re visiting…
we live here.
Me, Tom Turtle, Destiny Dolphin, Chris Crab, even that Pete Pelican who acts like he owns the place (he doesn’t—we’ve all agreed he just gets Canal Park.)
Which brings me to something important: The “Wing Code”
You won’t find it on a sign. You won’t find it in a brochure. But it’s been in place a whole lot longer than Chris’ Crab Shack. It’s how Mexico Beach works.
And if you wanna enjoy like we do…here’s how to follow along.
What Is the Wing Code?
Simple. It’s the unspoken agreement between everything that calls Mexico Beach, FL home:
- We don’t trash it- Leave No Trace
- We don’t bother each other – Don’t Feed or Pet Wildlife
- We mind what’s ours – We all pay attention to beach rules.
Y’all, on the other hand… need a little guidance.
Don’t stress, I’m here to help!
Wing Code 101
(Here is where you need to pay attention)
- Trash Goes Where It Belongs
And no, I don’t mean “near your chair” or “wherever the wind takes it. If it leaves your hand, it better end up in a trash can. Because when it doesn’t? It ends up in the water. In nests. Around baby wildlife. And suddenly your beach day turns into everybody else’s problem.
So let me help you, help keep Mexico Beach Unforgettable.
2. Stop Feeding the Wildlife
Let me make this real clear: You are not Snow White. You feed one bird, and now 40 of my cousins know your face, your outfit, and your snack inventory. And it’s not just about us getting a little bold—it messes up how wildlife survives on its own.So no, I don’t want your chip.
(…okay I do, but that’s not the point.) Mexico Beach is a Bird Sanctuary and due to that we will thrive, even without the Cheetos.
3. If It’s Wild, Let it Be Wild
Now this one is real important. You see a turtle? A bird? Anything just out here living its life? Give it space. Don’t crowd it. Don’t chase it. Because to you, it’s a moment. To them? It’s their home. Their safety. Their babies.
And we do not play about the babies. Don’t make me get Pete to come after you. From a safe distance you can snap a photo, but we will be watching.
4. The Wind is Not Your Friend
I don’t know who told y’all otherwise. Secure your towels. Secure your bags. Secure your snacks. Because when things start flying? That’s not my fault. That’s between you and the laws of nature.
(But if something edible lands near me… I’m gonna mind my business real fast.)
5. Please Respect Our Home
This one ties it all together. You came here to relax, to have fun, to enjoy something beautiful. We’re glad you’re here, we love sharing our home. But just remember—this isn’t a theme park. It’s not a backdrop. It’s a living, breathing place that a whole lot of us depend on.
So act like a good guest.
Meet the Locals
The beach isn’t just a place—it’s a home. And while I might be the loudest voice around, I’m not the only one who calls it home. Meet The Locals who help keep things running:
Chris Crab keeps the shoreline in check, always on cleanup duty.
Pete Pelican watches from above, calm and observant.
Tom Turtle reminds everyone to slow down and respect what matters most.
Destiny Dolphin moves through the water with ease (and a little attitude).
Different personalities, different perspectives—but all part of the same crew.
Together, we live by one simple idea: Respect the beach, and it’ll take care of you.
That’s the “Wing Code.”

Final Thoughts (From Me to You)
Look, I’m not saying you gotta be perfect. I’ve seen some things. Expectations are realistic. But if you follow the “Wing Code“—even just a little—you’re gonna have a better time.
Cleaner beach. Better wildlife moments. Less chaos. And fewer run-ins with me.
(Trust me… you want that.)
So come on down. Bring your people. Enjoy yourself.
Just don’t make me come over there.
